The Emergent Voices Research Study

The title of the research project is: Emergent Voices: Reintegration and Desistance from the Perspectives of Formerly Criminal Justice-Involved Individuals. The study is a research project conducted by Capella University student, Linda F. Williams as part of her doctoral studies at the Capella University School of Public Service Leadership.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

The researcher would like to know what parole and probation officers think about what is needed to make the ex-offender successful in reintegration.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Simply answer seven (7) open-ended questions in the online survey. The online survey offers an OPTIONAL phone interview if you wish to participate by phone.

1.   What advice do you have for individuals who are coming out of prison?

 

  • What else do they need to do?

  • What do they need to watch out for after getting out?

 

2.   What kind of mistakes do you think the prison system makes that leads people

back into prison?

 

3.   What is something about the prison system that you think helps? Is there

anything the prisons do right?

 

4.   Do you think having a college degree, a specialized certification in a trade or a

high school diploma makes a difference?

 

5.    How important are long-term goals to helping a former prisoner not to

recidivate? Where do we go from here?
